The East Brunswick Soccer Club will once again award its John Holland Memorial Scholarships to graduating high school seniors -- one male and one female -- in the next few weeks. Each winner will receive a $1,000 college scholarship and an engraved plaque.
The scholarships are named in the memory of John Holland, a former coach, board member and referee.
The general criteria for consideration is club participation for four years or eight seasons, to be a college-bound senior and to complete a 500-word essay on the importance of soccer or the East Brunswick Soccer Club to his or her growth and development. Students can download an application by clicking here.
The awards will be based on the essay, grade point average, SAT/ACT scores, school activities, community activities, awards and accomplishments, demonstration of need, participation in the club as a player or in another role (referee, coach, etc.) and any other criteria the selection committee deems appropriate.
All applications are due by Friday, June 5 and should be mailed to East Brunswick Soccer Club, PO Box 803, East Brunswick, NJ 08816. Further information is available from Gary Kaplan, club Referees-VP and selection committee chair.
