Recreation coaches, referee honored

Three Recreation coaches were honored for their coaching talents, their commitment to sportsmanship and their involvement and support for EBSC at the season-ending Recreation awards program. EBSC also cited one of its Recreation referees for his dedication and commitment to the program.

Girls’ Recreation VP Pete Trimboli selected Gary Taffet for the coaches award. Gary coaches his daughter in U7 Girls Recreation and also serves as an assistant coach with his son’s travel team. As a Recreation coach, Gary was cited by Pete for always being positive with his players, attending coaching clinics and incorporating his new knowledge into team and player training.

Yury Ashkinadze, a Boys U7 coach, was the selection of Boys Recreation VP Charles Sheard. According to Charles, Yury epitomized the EBSC coaching ideals in his work with his team: devotion to development of all the players, not just the most talented; fostering the spirit of sportsmanship as well as competition, and a dedication to improvement as coach by attending clinics and observing travel team practices.

In Superstars, VP Liz McSpiritt selected Todd Ruoff. Even though he was an experienced player, Todd attended clinics and participated in activities to improve his coaching. On the field, Todd was always punctual and organized and was a great communicator with players and parents. Said Liz, "Todd’s enthusiasm was clear for all to see, and he kept his players moving and having fun throughout Superstars practices."

VP-Referees Gary Kaplan called Andrew Cerame "loyal and truly dedicated to his position" and a worthy recipient of the referees’ award. A certified travel referee, Andrew has demonstrated a deep knowledge of the game and great patience in explaining the rules of the game to young players.

Congratulations to Gary, Yury, Todd and Andrew!
